Most people would rather be certain they're miserable, than risk being happy.

We use the following risk assessment process:

'If we don't succeed, we run the risk of failure.' - George W. Bush

The classic approach to get you started is a Risk Severity * Likelihood Matrix

Consequence Scale:  Indicates the Impact of the risk on the objective

Likelihood Scale:  Provides an assessment of the Likelihood of the risk occuring
Likelihood
  1  Rare 2  Unlikely 3 Moderate 4 Moderate 5 Almost Certain
May occur only in exceptional circumstances Could occur at some time Might occur at some time Will probably occur in most circumstances Is is expected to occur in most circumstances
5 Catastrophic
Distaster with the potential to end the objective.  No achievement staisfied. 12 18 21 24 25
4 Major
Critical events affecting the achievement of the objective.  Needs significant senior management attention  10 14 19 22 23
3 Moderate
Event with significance, additional management attention required 6 9 15 17 20
2 Minor
Event that can be managed under normal operating conditions & requires moderate levels of resource & management input. 3 5 8 13 16

Consequences can be readily absorbed but management effort is still required to minimise their impact 1 2 4 7 11

The BAL Risk Assessment Methodology BRAM is a staged approach started by customising the below standard questionnaire to the customer's business specifics. The questionnaire is then distributed and collated from all stake-holders into a stake-holder matrix. Each of the categories and questions within categories have different weights customisable.

Customised versions of the BRAM are available for:
